Learning Community Information

Students reside in Wilson Hall, where they are paired with other learning community students. Wilson Hall is a traditional-style residence hall located in South Village. Opening in 2024, the building is equipped study lounges, community kitchen, laundry, and student/professional staff for support.

In collaboration with various campus partners, students are offered a range of services and resources within the Learning Community, including:

  1. Academic Advising: Students enrolled in the 49er First LLC will have additional 1:1 academic advising support. Course planning is an essential piece to a student’s journey throughout their time at Charlotte, and staff will be present to assist along the way.
  2. Mentorship: Learning Community participants will be paired with an experienced peer mentor who can offer guidance and support. The peer mentor will also be a First-Gen Niner, and will be tasked with ensuring a strong sense of belonging exists within the cohort.
  3. Academic Support: Academic Skill Workshops will be offered to ensure students consider all aspects of how they can be successful in the classroom. Workshop topics range from goal setting and communicating with a professor to stress and time management.
  4. Financial Literacy: Students apart of the 49er First LLC are enrolled in the Rainy Day Savings Program. This program was created to help college students build healthy financial habits, but most importantly to establish an emergency fund.
  5. Career Counseling: Students will also connect with the University Career Center by exploring options, connecting with employers, and learning how to market themselves and their strengths.
  6. Community Building: Charlotte offers opportunities for students to connect with each other and build a sense of community. Opportunities may include social events, peer support groups, and other activities that help First-Generation college students feel more connected to their college and their peers.
