Learning Community Information

Students will reside in Wilson Hall, where they will be paired with other learning community students. Wilson Hall is a traditional-style residence hall located in South Village. in 2024, the building is equipped study lounges, community kitchen, laundry, and student/professional staff for support.

In collaboration with various campus partners, students are offered a range of services and resources, including:

  1. Academic Advising: First-generation college students often benefit from personalized academic advising that helps them navigate the college system and select classes that align with their goals.
  2. Mentorship: Many first-generation college student programs offer mentorship programs that pair students with experienced college students, faculty, or staff members who can offer guidance and support.
  3. Community Building: Tutoring services can help first-generation college students improve their academic skills and stay on track with coursework.
  4. Financial Literacy: Students will be enrolled in the Rainy Day Savings Program. This program was made to help college students build healthy financial habits, but most importantly to establish an emergency fund.
  5. Career Counseling: By connecting with the University Career Center, services can help first-generation college students explore career options and connect with employers.
  6. Community building: First-generation college student programs often offer opportunities for students to connect with each other and build a sense of community. These programs may offer social events, peer support groups, and other activities that help first-generation college students feel more connected to their college and their peers.
